The mayii way
How mayii scores food
without taking shortcuts.
Most food apps give you a traffic light. mayii gives you a story — and a straight answer.
You've been there.
Squinting at an ingredient list in the supermarket aisle at 7pm, Googling 'what is carrageenan' and ending up more confused than when you started.
Buying something because it said 'natural' on the front, then noticing ingredient number six is a preservative you can't pronounce.
Picking the 'low fat' option and discovering it has twice the sugar of the regular one.
What you get in mayii
No asterisks. No fine print.
A score out of 100 — honest, consistent, no marketing spin
A verdict that doesn't sugarcoat it — Hard Pass means Hard Pass
Every additive explained in plain English
AI insights personalised to your goals and diet
Scan the label directly if the barcode isn't working
Harmful additives flagged clearly
Because 'high sugar' means something different on a Medjool date versus a flavoured yoghurt. Because carrageenan in one product isn't the same as E471 in everything. Because ultra-processed is a real thing, not a vibe.
mayii uses layers.
NOVA Classification
How processed is it, really? We classify every product using the NOVA framework — from unprocessed whole foods to ultra-processed products engineered for overconsumption.
Additive Tier System
Not all additives are equal. We grade them from Tier 1 (serious concerns) to Tier 4 (benign). A product with vitamin E is not the same as one with Red 2.
Purity & Wholefood Bonuses
Clean products get rewarded. If a product is genuinely wholefood-forward with no industrial additives, it gets credit for that — loudly.
Personalised Context
Your score means something different based on your goals. A high-protein product scores differently for someone building muscle versus someone managing blood sugar.
Harmful Additive Flagging
Not every country draws the line in the same place. We show you which additives approved in Australia aren't approved everywhere else. Not to scare you — just so you know.
Things we're proud of.
We don't punish fermented foods for being fermented.
We celebrate genuinely wholefood products — loudly.
We update our engine when the science changes.
We never take money from brands to change a score.
We flag what other countries have restricted.
We tell you why, not just what.
Independent. Science-grounded.
Occasionally sarcastic.
No pay-to-play. Scores are applied consistently regardless of brand involvement.
Consumer-first. Always. The framework exists to support understanding, not marketing outcomes.
Explainable. Every score has a breakdown. Every verdict has a reason.
